There’s something special about Colorado.
Maybe it’s the incomparable views. Maybe it’s the mountain air. Maybe it’s just the feeling that comes with the sweeping vistas and briskness of adventure all around you.
No matter what it is, some couples just have the draw to Colorado–and that’s something Kim and Kyle understood wholeheartedly. This sweet couple knew that Colorado was right for them–once we settled on their Evergreen, CO mountain elopement location, everything else seemingly settled into place.
Above all, Kyle and Kim were seeking an elopement that was perfect for them–that meant a stunning sunset, time to embrace the small, intentional moments of the day, a chance to read letters from their loved ones, and plenty of opportunities throughout the day to soak in the most memorable moments of their lives.
As the couple got ready, they were filled with nervous anticipation. Kyle wanted to make sure he had everything just right. We fixed his tie a few times to ensure it was in the perfect place. Kim changed into her wedding attire, and they prepared for their first look.
With his back to his bride, Kyle looked out over the jaw-dropping Colorado vistas. He spun around after a soft tap on the shoulder from Kim and was immediately excited. It was as if all his nerves melted away the moment he saw his beautiful bride in her wedding dress.
They embraced each other, taking a moment to let a beautiful, intentional part of their Colorado elopement sink before they did anything else. Watching the two of them laugh, kiss, and enjoy such a small but beautiful moment reminded me of why I do what I do. Don’t get me wrong, the epic mountain backdrop definitely helps, but it’s really about those small moments–the ones that you don’t expect to remember but end up living with you forever.
Watching Kim and Kyle during their first look was definitely one of those moments for me.
After their first look, the couple chose to dive into some beautiful letters from loved ones. Though they’d chosen to elope just the two of them, they wanted to include their family and friends in a meaningful way. They picked a few to start, reading them together and experiencing one of the most magical parts of their day early on.
Their handwritten vows came next. They read them privately to each other, sweetly sharing the most intimate moment of their day together, being fully present. But being fully present didn’t stop them from being themselves–when they finished their vows, they both did a little happy dance to celebrate their marriage!
Then, the rest of the adventure was on. They hiked around the cliffy edges, soaked in the natural beauty, and took their time as they explored the area. Their spot was one of my favorites–it’s close to Denver, absolutely breathtaking, and offers great exploration for hikers and adventurers of all levels.
What I loved most about Kim and Kyle was their commitment to being wholly themselves. As we took some portraits and adventured around, they wanted nothing more than to snap a quirky little photo of them on the overlook of Kim giving Kyle a piggyback ride. They were so fun and open to having a day that was all about what they wanted–and in my opinion, that’s the best kind of elopement day you could possibly have.
We stopped by another location where they ate dinner and partook in a few sips of Fireball–a drink they’d sipped together when they were dating. This was just one of the intimate, personal touches to their day that was uniquely them–they also brought a framed picture of their beloved pup who wasn’t there to join them.
They took this chance to slow down, embrace the moment, and enjoy their meal–already reflecting on the epic day they’d experienced. They brought out more of their letters from family and friends to top off an already amazing day.
As the evening slowly rolled in, the day continued to slow. They had their first dance around the lake at sunset, melting into each other and enjoying the final few moments of their Colorado elopement.
It wasn’t the stunning scenery or the unique and thoughtful details that made Kyle and Kim’s elopement so special–it was the intention behind it.
Both of them were so willing and ready to be themselves, to have the day that meant the most to them.
They embraced not only each other but also their dream elopement in every way–and as a result, that’s exactly what they had. They made their Evergreen, CO mountain elopement so wonderful!
