4 Reasons to Book More Coverage on Your Elopement Day
Before you read this title and think, “well, of course, the elopement photographer wants me to book more coverage–that’s kind of her job,” I want to be super blunt about something.
It is my job to capture authentic, amazing, epic photos of your elopement day.
And it’s also my job to make sure you’re getting the most out of your day that you can.
That’s entirely what drives my interest here–I want you to feel completely and utterly in love with each other and your wedding day–that’s why I think it’s so important to have the conversation about more coverage.
The fact of the matter is, I’m not here to tell you how many specific hours you should book on your elopement day. Truly, I want you and your partner to think about the day you genuinely want, and we can work around that–not the other way around.
But I do want you to think long and think hard about taking that number, whatever it might be, and adding to it–even if it’s just by an hour or two.
Why? Well, I have four very good reasons.
Every Detail Deserves to be Documented
Often, people think that elopement days are all about the big elements–the ceremony, the first kiss, the epic hiking around your gorgeous location. And don’t get me wrong, these things are massively important to your day. But the real beauty of your elopement day is that the magic happens in each and every second of your day.
The lipstick smudge on your cheek as you get ready for your first look.
The breakfast and coffee together before you go your separate ways to prepare for your ceremony.
The tiny details where you ask your partner to tie your tie or button your dress.
The moments you couldn’t stop laughing while eating a picnic lunch by a lake.
All of these moments are just as big and beautiful and important as those giant elements that make up an elopement day–and each one of them deserves to be documented fully and authentically. More coverage means more time in your day to absorb each of these moments–but it also means more time for me to capture these moments forever.
Imagine being able to remember that spontaneous giggle fit you two had over breakfast on the morning of your wedding–something that otherwise would have left you asking, “What were we laughing at that day?” Imagine having every moment frozen in time for you–seconds that you can’t get back. That’s what more coverage gets you, really–more opportunities to sit down and relive that day time and again.
You Might Want to Soak Things in Longer
We can plan the most timely, to-the-minute timeline that accounts for everything you both want on your elopement day. We can schedule it all out to account for weather, for delays, for guests that could slow the process down a touch.
We could plan for everything–but what we can’t plan for is the possibility that you both might want to just sit in a wildflower meadow and feel this moment for as long as possible. We can’t plan for a sudden inspiration in your vows–the desire to share something more with your partner because you felt the spark of inspiration in that moment.
And things like that–those beautiful and intentional and sporadic things–deserve a place in your wedding day. You shouldn’t be caught up in timelines; you shouldn’t be worried about coverage running out. You shouldn’t forgo doing or saying or feeling something because you’re worried about running out of time.
More coverage means less stress, less worry, and more opportunity to breathe in your day, soak in the magic of the moments, and experience things as they happen and as you feel them.
If You’ve Got Guests, More Time Makes Sense
I’m not saying that everything always runs smoothly when it’s just you and your partner–but the general rule is, that the more people, the more time it takes to do something. Is that a bad thing? Not at all. Does it mean you shouldn’t have your loved ones join you on your wedding day? No way! It just means that adding a little extra coverage can ensure you’re getting all the time you need–even if having a few more people delays things a touch.
Maybe your relatives can’t find the exact spot of your ceremony, so there’s a little wait there. It’s possible it takes your best friend a little too long to finish your wedding day makeup look, so your first look doesn’t happen when you think it might. Without planning for these things with a little buffer room in your timeline (which often translates to a touch more coverage), it’s possible you could miss out on documenting the most important parts of your day.
You Can Fit More Must-Haves Into Your Day
Maybe it’s a second (or third) location. Maybe it’s an extra-long time spent together at a spot you’ve been dying to see. Maybe it’s having that slow, low-key picnic in the middle of the day to just pause, breathe, and soak it in. Whatever it might be, when you plan for a little more coverage, you essentially plan for time to include extra must-have activities, locations, and adventures into your day.
Big activities–like skiing down your favorite mountain together or hiking the long way to your go-to overlook–and small elements of your day–like making lunch together at the Airbnb or having a slow first dance just the two of you–all matter. And they all should get the time they deserve.
Rushing these things just to fit them into your day doesn’t give them the slow, intentional, meaningful credence they deserve. If you want to add more adventure or more meaningful elements into your day, you should–just make sure you’re giving them–and you–the time deserved to enjoy every second of them.
